Transition to Prep

At Stockdale Road Primary School, we offer a comprehensive Prep Transition Program designed to provide a smooth and supportive pathway from preschool to primary school. This program marks the beginning of your child’s educational journey, offering a variety of opportunities to become familiar with our school environment, connect with teachers and peers, and build confidence. Our goal is for every child to begin their school life feeling happy, safe, and excited from their very first day.

To support this transition, we provide a variety of opportunities for both you and your child to become familiar with our school environment and community. These include:

    • preschool visits
    • classroom tours
    • parent information sessions
    • opportunities to meet our teachers, transition leaders, and staff

Through these experiences, children build confidence and a sense of belonging, while parents gain valuable insights into school life at Stockdale Road Primary School.

Preschool Connections

Once enrolments begin, members of our Prep team will initiate communication with your child’s Preschool and, where possible, arrange visits to their Preschool setting. This important connection allows our teachers to develop a deeper understanding of each child’s developmental stage and social interactions. In turn, this helps us tailor our teaching approaches to support each child’s individual needs as they begin school.

Transition Sessions for Enrolled Children

The transition from Preschool into Prep is a very important time for all children. It is our responsibility to make this transition as smooth and supportive for each child that begins school at Stockdale Road Primary. We recognise that every student brings a unique set of abilities, needs and attitudes towards learning, and as such, the transition experience will vary for each individual.

In Term 4, our formal Transition Program for enrolled students will take place. This includes three transition sessions, in addition to the Statewide Orientation Day. During these sessions, children will participate in a variety of structured activities designed to familiarise them with the school routines. This time also provides an important opportunity for students to begin forming connections with their future teachers and peers.

Dates for 2027 Prep Transition Sessions

Transition Leaders

Our Transition Leaders are a dedicated team of senior students who play an important role in supporting our new Prep students. They are actively involved during transition sessions, providing a friendly and familiar face to help our youngest learners feel welcome and at ease. Their support continues into the beginning of the school year, both in the classroom and in the playground, helping Prep students navigate their new environment with confidence and care.

Prep students will start school on Thursday 29th January and will attend school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:50am – 3:30pm. They will have every Wednesday off until they commence full time on Monday 23rd February. Please see the below schedule.

School Readiness

As parents, you may have questions about your child’s readiness for school or whether they might benefit from an additional year in preschool. If you are considering this option, your child’s qualified preschool teacher is the best person to provide professional guidance, based on their understanding of your child’s developmental progress and individual needs.
