Numeracy
At Stockdale Road Primary School, numeracy is taught in a dedicated one-hour block each day, with a strong focus on ensuring all students develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Each lesson begins with retrieval practice to reinforce prior learning and strengthen long-term memory. This is followed by fluency tasks that support the rapid and accurate recall of number facts and key skills, ensuring students build efficiency and confidence in their mathematical thinking.
The main component of the lesson involves explicit instruction, where teachers introduce and model new concepts using clear explanations and structured guidance.
Lessons are aligned with all areas of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, ensuring a comprehensive and balanced approach across:
-
- Number
- Measurement
- Geometry
- Statistics
- Probability
Students are provided with opportunities to apply their learning in meaningful contexts, supporting both conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills. Through consistent, structured practice, students are supported to achieve success and growth in numeracy.
