Physical Education
At Stockdale Road Primary School in Traralgon, we take an enthusiastic approach towards Physical Education and value the contribution it has within our school community.
The Physical Education program is developed with a focus on developing fundamental motor skills which children will then be able to apply within different contexts. Children participate in a program where they are exposed to a variety of different skills, games and teamwork activities.
Stockdale Road Primary School boasts a state of the arts, modern, spacious, and well-equipped stadium where our physical education (PE) program takes place. Students engage in PE throughout the week as part of our specialist curriculum.
- In Year Prep, students focus on developing gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and language. This makes up a big part of the program implemented in Terms 1 and 2. During Terms 1 and 4, the focus shifts to developing athletics and minor game skills.
- For students in Years 1 and 2, the program centres on building fundamental movement skills through a variety of minor games and sports.
- Years 3 and 4 concentrate on developing sporting skills and strategies while continuing to refine their fundamental movement abilities.
- By Years 5 and 6, students focus on advanced skills and strategies related to sports and major games, emphasizing teamwork, personal goal setting, coordination, agility, and the language associated with these activities.
District Sports
Our school offers exciting opportunities for students in Years 3 to 6 to take part in District Sports, where they compete in both team and individual events against other schools in the Traralgon district. Sports include:
- swimming
- athletics
- cross country
- cricket
- basketball
- bowls
- tennis
We encourage all students to get involved and support their sporting goals by providing time within the school curriculum to develop and practise these skills.
In addition to District Sport, our Year 5 and 6 students also have the opportunity to represent Stocky in Winter Sports competitions. Competing against other primary schools from across Traralgon, students select a sport of their choice:
- soccer
- AFL
- netball
- hockey
- T-ball
This fun, friendly, and competitive event encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development, while giving students the chance to connect with peers from other schools and experience the excitement of being part of a team.
